KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) is a program launched in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India to inspire young minds studying science and aspiring to careers in research. The primary goal of this exam is to develop and identify emerging talents while also motivating students. This program seeks to support students in pursuing careers in research and to ensure that the best talents are developed for the country's research and development needs. Every year, the IISc (Indian Institutes of Sciences) organizes and conducts the KVPY.
The selected KVPY Fellows receive generous fellowship and contingency funding up to the pre-Ph.D. level or five years, whichever comes first. In addition, summer programs for KVPY Fellows are offered at major research and educational institutes throughout the country. Students are chosen from those in the eleventh grade to the first year of any undergraduate program in basic sciences, such as B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, who have an aptitude for scientific research. Special groups / committees are formed at IISc to screen applications and administer an aptitude test at various locations around the country. The merit list is based on 75% Aptitude Test marks and 25% Interview marks in the SA, SB, and SX streams. SA can be written by students in the Science stream in class 11.
